FD display sign Would you like to help with an emergency-preparedness demonstration for the city of Cupertino (and the Santa Clara Valley), and have a chance to practice some radio communications at the same time? Our Troop and Crew have been asked to assist, and I'm taking sign-ups from those who'd like to help out. We invite your participation in our K6BSA Field Day on June 23-24! Here are the details. Please contact us to sign up for a timeslot -- or just drop by.

So, if you're interested in learning more about Amateur Radio, or simply want to help our neighbors get ready for the "next big one", pick one or more "times" and "activities" from the listing below -- and either email me back, or give me a call, so I can put you on our list. The more Scouts who can come, the better we'll be able to help the community (and have fun!)

Next Licensing Class

Our next licensing class starts this July at Mr. Toback's house; any Scout in the Cupertino/Saratoga area (from any Troop) is welcome to attend. Cost is $20, and this covers the cost of the "Now You're Talking" instructional book (and the class is free, if you've already purchased the book). You'll get the software (for PC or Macintosh) with the questions and answers to the FCC's tests; the software tracks your knowledge and advises you on which sections need more study.

This is a lecture and self-study class with helpful video explanations and demonstrations, and the class meetings will be in the evenings (5:30 - 7 PM -- days will be set once we know who wants to come). You'll be able to review stuff you didn't understand in the readings/presentations. Send me a note, if you want to hear more.
